If anyone is looking to expand in the sports field, my bestfriend's football team is looking for photographers who want to volunteer/intern. They do travel out of state, which might be something you can also get in on. It's a group of women who all have families. which means your connections will expand and you'll probably get hired for their personal family shoots.
(Don't come at me "why should I work for free" I don't know the full details, I don't run the program)
