Casting opportunity (Black male, age 40-65) for an upcoming feature, shooting in Boston this spring.

We were thrilled to see hundreds of actors apply to the role, though almost all rescinded their application after learning the character is gay. He has no on-camera scenes of intimacy nor behavior that is at all stereotypical of a token gay role; he just alludes to his being gay in one of his last scenes. Evidently that was reason enough for most applicants to turn down the chance to audition. Disheartening on many levels.
